The 2026 Municipal Election is scheduled for November 3, 2026. Belmont voters will have the opportunity to vote for a Mayor for a 2-year term, and Belmont voters in Districts 1 and 3 will have the opportunity to vote for a council member from their respective voting district.
In addition, Belmont voters will be asked to vote on a special tax initiative providing dedicated local funding for the construction and operation of a new Barrett Community Center. This measure was placed on the ballot by citizen initiative proposed by a group known as the Friends of Belmont Community Center.
The measure would authorize a tax on the square footage of improved properties within the City of Belmont that could only be used to fund community center operations and services. The tax would begin on July 1, 2027, and would set rates at $0.33 per square foot for improvements on dwelling units and $0.54 per square foot for all other types of properties for that tax year. Seniors aged 65 and over who own and reside in their dwelling units would be exempt from this tax.
