Our Purpose

Art installations and cultural events--both large and small--will help realize the long-term vision of the Belmont Village Specific Plan (BVSP), which calls for public realm improvements including public placemaking, infrastructure enhancements to promote walkability/biking, and more). Furthermore, public art stands to reflect our city's values, capturing our history, nature, and diversity.

To direct future public art efforts, the City commissioned a Public Art Master Plan in 2020. We also continue to welcome ideas and inspiration from our community. Please email any suggestions to parksrec@belmont.gov.

Public Art Master Plan

In 2020, the City developed a Public Art Master Plan, a vital component of our ongoing Placemaking effort, which began as a Council Priority in 2018. The Master Plan outlines the process and goals to realize our commitment to maintaining and enhancing our character and quality of life through art and expression and catalyzing the City's long-term economic rejuvenation.

The following outreach occurred during the Master Plan's formation:

Sept. 8, 2020: City Council adopts Public Art Master Plan
Sept. 22, 2020: Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed draft Master Plan
July-Aug. 2020: Online survey (see Public Art Master Plan for survey findings)
March 4, 2020: Presentation to the Parks and Recreation Commission (same content as the Feb. 3, 2020 Focus Group)
