About the Plan
In 2017, the City of Belmont adopted our first Climate Action Plan. The City is now updating the plan with new data and current best practices as well as incorporating adaptation measures. The resulting Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (the "Plan") will establish key strategies for increasing resilience to climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions (which drive climate change), while aligning with State emissions reduction targets.
The update will include:
- Analyzing and forecasting local greenhouse gas emissions
- Setting emissions reductions targets in alignment with State targets
- Engaging stakeholders in critical discussions about the mitigation measures necessary to meet these targets
- Integrating the parallel General Plan Safety Element Update, building on its recommendations regarding "adaptation" to the impacts of climate change to help strengthen Belmont’s climate resilience
Timeline
The update is expected to take 18 months, with an estimated completion in fall of 2026. The following are projected milestones.
