Draft Plan Coming This Summer

Thank you to everyone who has shared feedback to-date, through workshops, surveys, emails, City Council meetings, and more — your input is directly shaping this plan.

The City is now refining the draft measures and actions based on your feedback, with the full draft Climate Action & Adaptation Plan expected this summer. The draft measures and actions are still available to review, and you may continue to send feedback to sustainability@belmont.gov.

About the Plan

In 2017, the City of Belmont adopted its first Climate Action Plan. The City is now updating the plan with new data and current best practices as well as incorporating climate adaptation. The resulting Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (the "Plan") will establish key strategies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in alignment with State targets while increasing resilience to climate change.

The update will include:

• Analyzing and forecasting local greenhouse gas emissions
• Setting emissions reductions targets in alignment the State
• Soliciting stakeholder feedback about the measures and actions selected to meet these targets
• Integrating the parallel General Plan Safety Element Update, update, building on its climate adaptation recommendations to strengthen Belmont’s climate resilience

Timeline

The Plan update is anticipated to take 18 months, with Plan adoption by the City Council anticipated in fall of 2026. Prior to adoption, the Planning Commission will be tasked with reviewing and making a recommendation on the Plan.
