Belmont Neighborhood Targeted for Mail Theft

Belmont, CA --

The Belmont Police Department would like to alert the community to an apparent rash of mail thefts that have been occurring in the Central Neighborhood Area of Belmont. Belmont Police were alerted to the theft by the Belmont Post Office, who has been receiving calls, for the past week, about found mail in the areas of Terrance Dr., Hillman Ave and Arbor Ave.

Apparently, pieces of mail have been found discarded in these areas. It appears that the suspect(s) are walking the areas, taking the mail, keeping what they want and discarding the rest.
Mail theft is often the first step in the commission of identity theft.

Belmont Police are asking residents to keep your eyes open for suspicious persons, especially in the Central Neighborhood and report them immediately. As far as security measures, residents are encouraged to either have a mail slot which deposits your mail inside your home or install a locking mailbox.
