Mandatory Commercial Organics Recycling – Good for the Climate, Good for Humanity
The California Senate Bill (SB) 1383 was created to reduce short-lived climate pollutants such as greenhouse gas methane and hydrofluorocarbons in an all-out statewide effort. SB 1383 will not only assist in the climate pollutants, but it is also geared to collecting edible food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributing it to feed people in need instead of landfills.
Compliance with SB 1383 regulations and the City of Belmont impending ordinance is not only a State requirement for all customers, but also an effective way to address climate change.
To comply with the local ordinance and California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383), all are required, by January 1, 2022, to either:
- Subscribe to and participate in an organics collection aka a compost service, OR
- Back-haul organic materials to an authorized composting facility or community program
To assist Businesses and Multi-Family Dwelling Property Owners into early compliance, visit our informational page on tools you can use, organics service, education and more. Visit www.belmont.gov/sb-1383
