Belmont Restaurant is First to be Foodware Aware Peacock’s Koriander Restaurant steps up as the first Belmont business to lead the way on early compliance and reducing foodware waste. Peacock’s Koriander will start working on changing their current plastic containers to biodegradable from the new year 2022 Background - In November 2020, the City of Belmont adopted the Foodservice Ware Ordinance, the intent serving to reduce the environmental impacts related to one-time use food service ware provided by food facilities, and to promote the use of reusable and compostable items. Implementation and enforcement of the Ordinance will start in March 2022. In an effort to assist food establishments in shifting over prior to implementation of the ordinance, the City is working in conjunction with the County of San Mateo’s Office of Sustainability in their “Foodware Aware” Program. The City reached out to Belmont food establishments and the Peacock Koriander restaurant owner/operator was the first responder and took the pledge to be Foodware Aware. Additionally, the restaurant will start working on changing over from plastic containers to biodegradable products for the upcoming 2022 new year; their restaurant will be highlighted on the City’s Environmental Sustainability webpage. Are you a Belmont food establishment and want to join others in this environmentally sustainable program? Take the Pledge and have your business highlighted as a Foodware Aware business.
