On Sunday September 19th 2021 at approximately 11:30am, a Belmont Officer located a suspected stolen vehicle driving in the area of Ralston Ave near Island Parkway. The vehicle was reported stolen to Daly City Police just a few hours prior. As the vehicle drove onto northbound Highway 101, additional BPD Officers arrived to the area and when a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle fled northbound Highway 101 at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was initiated by BPD Officers and the California Highway Patrol was notified of the pursuit. CHP took over the pursuit on Highway 101 near the San Francisco Airport and BPD Officers trailed the pursuit as the vehicle continued to flee from CHP. The vehicle exited onto 3rd Street in San Francisco and was involved in a non-injury collision near the intersection of 3rd St at Le Conte Ave. The suspect, later identified as Justin Macawile fled the scene on foot. He was chased by CHP and BPD Officers and was located approximately 1 block away while trying to enter a RV. Macawile was taken into custody without incident and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on multiple charges. A routine records check revealed Macawile had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest including a $500,000 felony warrant for burglary and conspiracy. This is a great example of neighboring jurisdictions coordinating a response to take a wanted criminal into custody.
