For the 11th consecutive year, the City of Belmont has been named a Tree City USA.  The Tree City USA program, sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service, recognizes communities throughout the nation that commit to maintaining and developing their urban forest.

Belmont has met all four standards required to become a Tree City USA: A tree board or department responsible for the care of all trees on city-owned property; a tree care ordinance that provides good policy and serves as the foundation for a tree care program; an annual budget to support the tree program; and an annual Arbor Day program to celebrate the benefits of city trees, such as providing clean air and clean water, decreasing soil erosion, providing shade, and increasing property values.

One major point of the City Council’s Vision Statement is “Natural Beauty”, emphasizing our beautiful hills, trees, parks, views and open spaces.  Achieving Tree City USA status for more than a decade is affirmation that this vision is being accomplished.

More information on the Tree City USA program is available at
