Solo Vehicle Collision Causes Road Closure and Power Outage
Contact: Captain Patrick Halleran, Public Information Officer - Belmont Police and Fire Departments (650) 595-7430
A solo vehicle collision into a utility pole resulted in a road closure on Alameda de las Pulgas and a power outage to nearby residences. The occupants of the vehicle received minor injuries.
On Tuesday 1/30, at approximately 2:30pm, Belmont Police and Fire units responded to a report of a vehicle collision on Alameda de las Pulgas at Monroe Ave. Upon arrival, Officers found that a black 2014 Honda CRV had collided with a utility pole, shearing it off at the base. The occupants of the vehicle, two woman in their 30's, were treated at the scene for minor injuries by Belmont Fire Department paramedics.
The Honda had been southbound on Alameda approaching Monroe Ave when it left the roadway, drove up on an embankment and collided with the pole. The cause of the collision is under investigation, but neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be a factor. No other vehicles were involved.
Initially, the collision resulted in an interruption of electrical service to approximately 500 customers in the area. At this time PG&E crews are on scene and will be working through the night to make repairs, which included erecting a new pole. Alameda between Forest Ave and Cipriani Blvd is currently closed to all traffic, but it is anticipated the road will reopen in time for the morning commute. Monroe Ave is closed at Alameda, and there is no estimated time when it will reopen.
The scene today on Alameda at Monroe Ave.
