Belmont, CA – At the Council Meeting on January 23, 2018, the Belmont City Council appointed Julia Mates to fill a vacant Council seat which has a term ending in November 2018. This seat became vacant with the passing of former Councilmember Eric Reed on December 8, 2017. The City Council advertised the opening and received 10 applications to serve the remainder of this term. Ms. Mates was one of four applicants interviewed for the position.
Ms. Mates has served on the Belmont Planning Commission since 2015, and most recently as its Chair. She has lived in Belmont for 12 years. Her familiarity with the newly adopted planning documents (updated General Plan, the Belmont Village Specific Plan, and the Climate Action Plan) will be an asset to the Council as it moves into the implementation phase of those plans.
Mayor Douglas Kim said of Mates, “Julia will bring her understanding of Belmont's neighborhoods, planning issues, and its history to the City Council. I look forward to her contributions that will help us all serve the public's interests.”
