Belmont Police Dog Locates Missing Woman in Water Dog Lake Park

Belmont, CA --

A Belmont Police Dog located a despondent woman who had gone missing in Water Dog Lake Park, Monday morning.

On Monday, January 20, 2014 @ approx. 11:00am, Belmont Police were called to an address on Elder Dr., regarding a woman who was reported missing. The initial information provided to officers was that the victim, a 47 year-old Belmont woman, was despondent and may have become lost somewhere in the nearby 260-acre Water Dog Lake Park.

Belmont Police officer Dan Friedman and his K9 partner Kilo were called to the scene at approx. 11:30am, and using an article of the victim’s clothing, began to track the victim from the trailhead near the Elder Dr. residence. Kilo tracked the victim along several hiking trails, finally locating her lying in some underbrush several hundred yards, from the residence. The victim did not appear to be injured but was taken to an area hospital for evaluation.

“This case is another example of the value of a well-trained police dog”, said Police Chief Dan DeSmidt.
