CONSENT CALENDAR

Approval of Minutes of Special Meeting of December 13, 2011

Approval of Resolution 2012-001 to Tax Defer Member Paid California Public Employees' Retirement System Contributions - IRC 414(h)(2) "Employer Pick-Up"

 

ACTION: On a motion by Director Lieberman, seconded by Director Wozniak, the Consent Agenda was unanimously approved by a show of hands.

 

ADDITIONAL BUSINESS

 

Public Hearing to Consider a Resolution of Intention to Approve a Retirement Plan Contract Between the California Public Employees' Retirement System and the Belmont Fire Protection District

Human Resources Director Dino explained that the salary and benefit plan that was implemented during the creation of the new fire department provides for a two-tier retirement plan with PERS (Public Employees Retirement System). She outlined the process for amending the contract with PERS in order to implement this two-tier system. She explained that following tonight’s approval of the Notice of Intention, a secret ballot will be held for the affected employees, and the last step in the process would be the adoption of the final resolution on February 14, 2012. She noted that if approved, the effective date of the contract amendment would be February 16. She outlined the actuarial data and noted that this contract amendment will provide savings in future years. She explained that the Fire Protection District is providing prior year service credits.

 

District Manager Scoles explained that employees have been paying 9 percent into PERS in the interim.

 

District President Warden opened the Public Hearing. No one came forward to speak.

 

ACTION: On a motion by Director Wozniak, seconded by Director Braunstein, the Public Hearing was unanimously closed by a show of hands.

 

ACTION: On a motion by Director Wozniak, seconded by Director Lieberman, Resolution 2012-002 Intention to Approve a Retirement Plan Contract Between the California Public Employees' Retirement System and the Belmont Fire Protection District was unanimously approved by a show of hands.

 

ADJOURNMENT at this time, being 8:25 P.M.
