Scott M. Rennie Appointed as Belmont’s First In-House City Attorney
Belmont, CA --
Mayor Coralin Feierbach announced today that the City Council has appointed Scott M. Rennie as the new City Attorney for the City of Belmont. “I was particularly impressed with the range and depth of his experience,” said Feierbach. “The fact that he serves as a Planning Commissioner for his City shows his involvement in the community.” The City of Belmont has long been contracting out city attorney services but the Council voted earlier in the year to hire its first in-house City Attorney.
Mr. Rennie comes to Belmont from the City of Fremont where he has served as Senior Deputy City Attorney II since 2007. He started as the Senior Deputy City Attorney I in January 2002. Prior to joining Fremont, Rennie worked at the City and County of San Francisco City Attorney’s Office as Deputy City Attorney for its Trial Team and Code Enforcement Team. He also worked in the private sector as Associate Attorney in Government Contracts Practice Group. Rennie possesses a Juris Doctor with Distinction from Mc George School of Law, University of the Pacific and a Bachelor of Science degree from Princeton University.
The City’s new City Attorney has been practicing law for fourteen years, thirteen of which as a municipal lawyer, and has experience across a broad range of issues important to cities. His expertise is in the areas of police, fire, planning and code enforcement, just to name a few. He is also known as an expert in red light cameras. Rennie serves as a Planning Commissioner for the City of San Leandro and serves as Public Service Volunteer for the Alameda County Courts.
Mr. Rennie is enthused about the opportunity to joining the City of Belmont. Rennie said, “I am elated that the City Council has chosen to bestow on me the honor and privilege of being Belmont's first in-house City Attorney. I eagerly await getting started and serving the Council, the staff, and the citizens of Belmont."
Mayor Feierbach and the City Council appointed Scott Rennie to the position effective October 3, 2011.
