Meeting commenced at 6:20 P.M.

1. Self-introductions.

4. Other Business
a. Damon DiDonato gave a presentation on his attendance at the Green Building Ordinance Workshop.
• Provided handout and summarized the San Mateo County Green Building Ordinance.
• Provided handout and summarized the GreenPoint 50 point checklist.

b. Status Reports from Subcommittees
• Building & Utilities
a. Reviewed solar assessment district in Berkeley
b. Elimination and recycling of lighting sources
c. Reduce use through LED
d. Identify wasteful commercial sites, such as car dealerships
e. Water conservation using gray water systems, cisterns, landscaping using runoff from storm water
At this point the representative from Mid-Peninsula Water District reported on rebates for low-flow water closets.

• Outreach—no report
• Sustainability
a. Exploring ways to build community at public gathering places
b. Encourage local foods; include fruit trees in City tree give away program.
c. Provide a tree library
d. NDNU field trip to their green house
e. Include tree plantings in the center median as part of the Grand Boulevard Plan
f. Reduce automobile speeds
g. Connect the hillside communities with walking routes to shopping and public gathering spots
h. Restore and create walking paths connecting different parts of Belmont
i. Create shop in Belmont programs
j. Educate with material such as “Story of Stuff”

At this point the representative from Allied Waste offered additional compost give-aways.

• Transportation
a. Close 6th Avenue periodically for farmers market, festivals, etc. (perhaps Ralston someday?)
b. Slow traffic down
c. Encourage and make safer bicycle and pedestrian use
d. Refocus our efforts from making auto traffic easier to pedestrian and bicycle use easier
e. Restore and create the paper trails

• Waster Reduction & Recycling
a. Rename the subcommittee to Waste Prevention & Recycling
b. Seek CA. DOC. grant money for reusable green bags for shopping
c. Encourage the City’s use of recyclable paper
d. Promote compost bins and worm bins; facilitate their distribution by offering City credits
e. Improve the distribution of instruction and disposal sites for asbestos removal. Post on County web site when resources are available
f. Make known where different size recycling cans are available
g. Tour recycling facilities
h. Beautification of Belmont program should include drought resistant and native flora, to promote water conservation

At this point Mid-Peninsula Water District representative offered the CD “Water Wise”.
