CITY OF BELMONT GREEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES MAY 21, 2008
MINUTES
Members Present: Bill Dickenson, Christine Wozniak, Stephen Niksa, Justin Hagler, Vicki Padelford, Diane Keogh, Risa Horowitz, Kelsi Perttula, Krista Kuehnhackl, Mike Swire, Gladwyn D’Souza, Stephen Kelley, Courtney Carreras, Robert Ledoux, Hartley Laughead, Marcie Dompier
Absent: Adam Sevim, Pierce St. Hilaire, Jonathan Gervais, Rick Frautschi
City Staff Present: Carlos de Melo, Community Development Director, John Violet, City Treasurer, Bozhena Palatnik, Associate Civil Engineer, Damon DiDonato, Senior Planner, Colleen Flores, Community Development Administrative Assistant.
1. ROLL CALL/INTRODUCTIONS
Meeting was called to order at: 6:35 pm. CDD Director de Melo introduced Monica Serrato, Resident Director, Housing & Residence Life, at NDNU. A request has been forwarded from Councilmember Dickenson to add Ms. Serrato as a voting member of the GAC. After discussion with the GAC, Ms. Serrato was unanimously recommended to join the Committee. A next step is to have the City Council amend the Resolution on the Committee makeup.
2. AGENDA AMENDMENTS
Request to move discussion on item 4B directly after item 3-Consent Calendar (see following discussion on this item) was granted. 3. CONSENT CALENDAR
Minutes of April 17, 2008 were approved.
4. OTHER BUSINESS
4B. Case Study – Proposed SamTrans Bus Stop & No-Parking Zones – Hiller Street (Referral from City Council for GAC review & comment)
Bozhena Palatnik, Associate Civil Engineer, Public Works Department, provided the GAC Members with a summary of the proposed bus stop requests. Included in the summary was City Council’s recommendation that this matter be referred to the Green Advisory Committee for review.
Discussion ensued among members. A recommendation was made by the GAC Committee that Redi Wheels provide transportation for individual needs and that one additional bus stop be added Northbound at Cambridge Street. See vote on this recommendation below:

Building & Utilities – Bob Leoux reported that their group will meet next week.
Outreach – Bill Dickenson relayed that the group has not had the opportunity to meet.
Sustainability/Keeping it Green - Gladwyn D’Souza stated that his group has met twice. The group created two separate groups: Land Use and Healthy Community. They created a list of 25 items and split the items among the members to better manage the project.
Transportation – Mike Swire noted their group had several items on the table for discussion. These items included: Creating more Biking/Walking opportunities, Trip Reduction, Public Transportation, creating a web site, and closing Ralston Avenue once a month for bicycles. Waste Reduction & Recycling – Risa Horowitz reported that their group met to discuss several topics such as: green to go containers, recycle containers, construction of recycled materials, green canvas shopping bags, home composting, worm culture, asbestos disposal. She mentioned that they would like to see the City of Belmont create a web site with recycling information provided. 4C. Concluding Comments & Round Table
Community Development Director Carlos de Melo and Council Member Bill Dickenson thanked the GAC Committee Members for their sharing their ideas with the group and for their continued dedication.
