Temporary Encroachment Permit

This permit is issued whenever work is done in the public right-of-way – that portion of your property, which belongs to the City for use by the public. Generally speaking, in front of your property, this would be the area directly behind the curb, from about five to 10 feet back. Any work done in this area, including repair or construction of curb drain, storm drain, curb and gutter, sewer cleanout and/or sewer lateral, street, sidewalk and driveway approach would require a temporary encroachment permit. It can be obtained by the homeowner or his contractor by going to the Department of Public Works (1 Twin Pines Lane, Permit Center), filling out an application and providing the City Engineer with a simple drawing showing the type of work being done. All work must be done to City standards. Standard drawings for driveways, sewer laterals and cleanouts, sidewalks and curbs and gutters are available free of charge. The permit can be issued any afternoon between 2 - 4pm.
