Suspect Arrested After Taking Items from a Van

An alert Belmont PD officer on patrol interrupted a thief who was taking items from a van parked in the 300 block of O'Neill Ave Wednesday afternoon. The suspect fled through backyards in the Homeview Neighborhood, before being apprehended in the 400 block of Harbor Blvd.
On Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at approximately 2:55PM, Officer Michael Stauffer was on patrol in the 300 block of O'Neill Ave, when he saw a suspicious subject near a parked van. When the officer went to investigate, the suspect fled, running into a residential backyard in the 1200 block of Irwin St. The suspect then jumped over a fence into an adjacent yard, briefly eluding officers.
The suspect, Mitchell Taylor age 25 of San Carlos, was apprehended without incident, approximately 10 minutes later in the 400 block of Harbor Blvd. Several items taken from the van, including a laptop computer, were recovered. Taylor was booked into the San Mateo County Jail for Theft, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
