Contact: Captain Patrick Halleran, Public Information Officer - Belmont Police & Fire Departments (650-595-7430)
Belmont Police arrested a Las Vegas man today on multiple charges including DUI and Hit & Run after he fled from officers.
On Thursday, 7/13/17 at approximately 11:35AM, Belmont Police responded to a report of a reckless driver, who had been on Hwy 101 and was at the AM/PM Mini Market in the 400 block of Ralston Ave. Upon arrival Officers found the driver, Allen Tag age 38 of Las Vegas Nevada, apparently passed out behind the wheel of a Maroon 2016 Volkswagen Passat sedan with extensive front end damage.
As officers were attempting to contact him, Tag began driving and pulled out onto Masonic Way where he struck a parked Ford Ranger pick-up. Tag then drove onto westbound Ralston Ave, and then onto southbound Old County Road. Officers pursued Tag south on Old County Rd to Harbor Blvd, then onto El Camino. Tag continued north on El Camino to Davey Glen Rd, where police terminated the pursuit for safety reasons and notified neighboring agencies to be on the look out for the vehicle.
A short time later, Officers spotted Tag driving southbound in the 200 block of El Camino in Belmont and again attempted to stop him. Tag fled once again and this pursuit was also terminated for safety reasons, when Tag drove on a portion of the center median in an effort to evade Officers. Belmont Police kept Tag under observation as he drove on Ralston Ave and eventually south on El Camino into San Carlos until they lost sight of him on Holly St at Old County Rd.
A short time later, Belmont PD Officers found Tag in the vehicle, stopped in the 1000 block of Commercial St in San Carlos where he was taken into custody without incident. Tag was checked by paramedics and transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation, where he remains as of this press release.
Charges of Driving Under the Influence, Hit & Run and Evading Police against Tag are pending. Police are continuing to investigate this incident and are specifically interested in learning how Tag's Volkswagen was damaged, prior to it being first reported on southbound Hwy 101 near Hwy 92. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Belmont Police at 650-595-7400 or email@example.com.
