An assault suspect was arrested Saturday night, after trying to hide on the roof of a business in Belmont.
On Saturday, June 21, 2014 at approximately 10:30PM, Belmont Police responded to a reported assault at a business in the 500 block of Mountain View Ave. Upon arrival, officers found two victims who told them they had been drinking with an acquaintance, who assaulted them. One victim, a 41 year-old San Mateo man, was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department paramedics and declined further aid. The second victim, a 54 year-old Belmont man, was transported to an area hospital with serious, non life-threatening injuries.
Officers conducted an area search for the suspect, which included assistance from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Air Squadron. Shortly after 11:00PM, officers located the suspect, Stephen Ricketts age 25 of Laguna Niguel (Southern California), on the roof of an adjacent commercial building.
When officers attempted to take Ricketts into custody, he became combative and had to be restrained. Ricketts was removed from the roof with the assistance of an aerial ladder from the Foster City Fire Department. Ricketts and two officers sustained minor non life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Ricketts was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on several charges including Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Battery on a Police Officer.
